We Are She is a documentary series which gives women across the political spectrum the opportunity to speak and debate for themselves the role of government, the issues that
matter most, their own sense of responsibility in the process and how they view women from
other cultures.
Starting with the election cycles
of 2012 and continuing into the present, intimate group discussions and profiles have been filmed in Paris, Cairo and across the US.
It offers a unique long term perspective on the role that government plays in women’s
lives across the globe and
political aisles.
NOLA TO EGYPT
2012
In the United States Barack Obama has just been reelected. Women in New Orleans have a spirited debate about the role of government post Katrina.
While in Egypt Mohamed Morsie and the Muslim Brotherhood party have just come in to power. Women in Cairo discuss their lives and hopes after the Arab Spring.
PARIS, FRANCE
2012-2017
In 2012 a group of Parisian women talk about their concern for the success of the Hollande mandate with regards to the rise of the National Front party.
2017 voters have to choose between Marine Le Pen
and Emmanuel Macron.
U.S. MIDTERM

2018
On the night of the U.S. midterm elections the crowd at the Post Bar share the issues that led their vote.
2020
Even conversations with close friends can be more challenging than you think they might be. This is a short clip from a lengthly discussion regarding foreign policy and the goal of achieving peace in the Middle East.
A NOTE FROM THE FILMMAKER
I started working on We Are She in response to the building polarization I saw in the United States and elsewhere. I wanted to explore if given the opportunity to hear each other out could we agree to disagree and still find common ground.
All of the women featured in the documentary series came to me via six degrees of separation. In each location one woman I knew led me to the others.
I had no idea at the time that I started how much more difficult it would become to find our common ground as events played out in the future.
Here we are in 2021 trying to make sense of the election result divisions that led to an insurrection at the U.S. Capital, a military leadership governing Egypt and France, along with the rest of the globe, trying to overcome a pandemic and all of it’s consequences. It's time to revisit the women we've met and bring others into the discussion.
